Symphonies 2 and 14 CD released

The new Dutton CD containing Martyn Brabbins' performances of Brian's 2nd and 14th symphonies is now available

The wait is over! The Dutton SACD containing performances of Havergal Brian's second and fourteenth symphonies by Martyn Brabbins conducting the Royal Scottish National Orchestra is now available. The clarity of the recordings and the dynamism of the performances should prompt a wholesale re-evaluation of these two works. The second has long been thought to be very strong in construction, and this performance brings all of its qualities to the fore. It is also the first recording where the full complement of Brian's orchestration has been used in performance, including two pianos, sixteen horns and an organ.

The fourteenth symphony is similar in orchestral scale but shorter in duration, and this dynamic performance (only the symphony's second ever) should convince listeners of its quality.
