Tragica premiere on CD

The 1966 premiere of the Symphony no. 6 appears on a CRQ CD

Posted: 7 November 2016

It has been quite a year for the Sinfonia Tragica. Following the Naxos release of Symphony no. 6 under Alex Walker and the recent performance at the BBC Maida Vale studios under Martyn Brabbins, a recording of the symphony's 1966 premiere (also recorded at Maida Vale) has been released on a CRQ CD under the number CRQ CD268, and title 'A Tribute To Robert Simpson'. The disc also contains Simpson conducting a chamber orchestra in Beethoven's Eroica symphony.

The Tragica is performed by the Orchestra of the Covent Garden Ballet and Opera Company conducted by Douglas Robinson. There are no liner notes and the CDs appear to be burned on a per-order basis on CD-Rs. The disc can be ordered online direct from CRQ at http://crqeditions.co.uk/crqeditions.php where the disc is eighth from the top in the recordings listing.
